1. Giáo án Tiếng Anh lớp 4 WEEK 24TH Thursday, March 4th 2021 Period 91: Unit 14: What does he look like? Lesson 2 - Period 3 1.Look, listen and repeat. 2.Point and say. 3.Let’s talk. A. Objectives I. Aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to make comparisons about appearance using Who is + (comparative)? II. Language focus Sentence patterns: Who’s taller, shorter, older .. Vocabulary: taller, shorter, older, younger, thinner, bigger. III. Resources: book (page 26), CD player, cassette, cards, posters. B. Procedures I. Warm up - Greeting. - Call some students to describe their friends’appearance. II. Pre- task Tell Ss that they are going to listen to two boys asking and answering questions about their family members. Ask them to look at the four pictures to identify the context in which the language is used. Ask questions such as Who are they? Where are they? And What are they talking about? Help them to identify that Nam is talking to Peter about his farther and brother ( making a comparison between his farther and brother about appearance). Check comprehension. Play the recording more than once, if necessary, for pupils to listen and reapeat. Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking. III.While - task Tell pupils that they are going to practice asking and answering questions to compare people’s appearance . Have them look at the bubbles and the pictures to understand how the language is used. Ask them to look at the pictures to compare the appearance between two people. Point to the first picture and model the task with one pupil, using the question and the answer in the bubbles and the first pairs of adjectives under picture a. Teacher: Who’s taller? Ss:The girl is tallerl. Ask Ss to say question and the answer chorally and individually. Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the pictures. Ask pupils to practise in pairs, using the prompts in the bubbles and the phrases under the pictures. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary. Select some pairs to demonstrate the task in front of the class. Ss further practice asking and answering questions about their classmates’appearance and making comparisons, using what does she/he look like? Who’s + (comparative)? Lesson 2 - Period 4 4.Listen and circle. 5.Look and write. 6.Let’s sing. A. Objectives I. Aims: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to further practise making comparisons about appearance by doing a listening and a writing task. II. Language focus Sentence patterns: Who’s taller, shorter, older .. Vocabulary: taller, shorter, older, younger, thinner, bigger. III. Resources: book (page 27), CD player, cassette, cards, posters. B. Procedures I. Warm up - Greeting. - Ask some pairs of Ss to ask and and answer questions to compare the appearance of their classmates. Eg: S1: Who is taller, Linh or Khanh? S2: Linh is taller than Khanh. II.Listen and circle Tell Ss that they are going to listen to Nam’s description of his family and circle the correct pictures. Ask Ss to look at the four incomplete sentences and guess the possible answers for each sentence. Check understanding. Guides Ss how to do the task. T plays the record twice for Ss to listen and circle the answer. Play the recording more than once, if necessary, for pupils to listen and circle the words. Have pupils swap their answers before checking as a class. Then ask Ss to read the words aloud. Key: 1.a, 2.a, 3.b, 4.b. III. Look and write. Introduce the activity to the class. They are going to write the answers to the questions to make comparisons of people’s appearance, using the picture cues. Have them look at the four pictures to identify the difference in appearance betwwen the family members in each picture. Remind Ss that we use than when make comparions. Ask Ss to do the task. IV.Let’s sing Tell pupils that they are going to sing the song “What do they look like?”. Teach the song, following the procedure in Teaching the unit components in Introduction. First, have pupils read each line of the lyrics aloud. Do choral and individual repetition and check comprehension. Then, play the recording all the way through. Ask pupils to do choral and individual repetition of the song line by line. When Ss are familiar with the tune, ask two groups of pupils to the front of the class. One group sings the questions and the other sings the answers. Have the rest of the class sing together and clap hands. Lesson 3 - Period 5 4. Listen and repeat. 5. Listen and circle. 6. Let’s chant. A. Objectives: I. Aims: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to pronounce the sounds of the letters th in the words this, that, thin and thick respectively. II. Language focus Sounds of words. III. Resources: book (page 28), CD player, cassette, cards, posters. B. Procedures I. Warm up - Greeting. - Sing the song: What do they like? II.Listen and repeat Tell Ss that they are going to practise saying the sounds of the th in the words this, that and thin, thick respectively. First, put the letters th on the board. Play the recording and ask Ss to repeat a few times. Put the words this, that and thin, thick on the board. Play the recording and ask pupils to repeat a few times. After that draw their attention to the pronunciations of letters th. Then put the four sentences on the board. Play the recording more than once and let pupils say the sentences. Give them a few seconds to read the sentences in silence and guess the words. Play the recording more than once, if necessary, for pupils to listen and circle the words. IV.Let’s chant Tell pupils that they are going to say the chant This is my family?. Follow the procedure in Teaching the unit components in introduction. Have them read the chant and check comprehension. Play the recording more than once, if necessary, for pupils to do choral and individual repetition. Show pupils how to chant and do actions. Call one group to chant the questions and another to chant the answers. Get pupils to sit opposite of each other and practise chanting and doing actions. Go around offering help, if necessary. Call some groups to the front of the class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm. Lesson 3 - Period 6 4.Read and complete. 5.Write about your favourite food and drink. 6. Project. A. Objectives: I. Aims: By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to use words and phrases related to the topic Physical appearance to do reading and writing tasks and do a project well. II. Language focus Review III. Check comprehension . Tell them that they have to read the queations and then read the email and focus on the information needed to answer the queations. Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary Have Ss trade the answers in pairs for correction Call on some Ps to report their answers. Others listen and comment. Have the whole class read each sentence of the paragraph in chorus to reinforce their pronunciation Answers: 1. He’s a reacher 2.He’s tall and slim 3.She’s beautiful. 4.Her brother is younger 5.Marie is shorter. III. Write. Introduce the activity by saying: You are going to write an email to their friends to describe their family, using the given words in the frame. Have them to work in pairs or groups to discuss what they are going to write in the blank. Ask them to write about their father’s and mother’s appearance. Give Ss the time to do the task. T goes around and offers help. Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class. Ask Ps to read the answers aloud to the class. The others listen and give comments. Answers: Ss’s own answers. IV. Project Ask Ss to bring a photo of their family and describe their family members to the class. Ask them to think about what to say about their family members (eg. name, age, job, hobbies, appearance) Have Ss to work in pairs or groups to discuss what they are going to talk about. Call some Ss to the front of the class and do the task.
